Deputy: Man dies in Illinois grain bin accident

GENOA, Ill. (Associated Press) -

Authorities in DeKalb County say a man has died after falling into a grain bin at a rural Genoa family farm.

DeKalb County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Gary Dumdie says crews pulled a 73-year-old man from the grain bin on Monday afternoon. Dumdie says police received a call earlier to report the man missing. Dumdie says emergency responders arrived and found the man's unattended truck but couldn't locate him. Corn spilled from the bin as responders worked to find the man. He wasn't immediately identified.

Dumdie says the DeKalb County coroner was called. He says the man and others were apparently working to unclog a chute in the bin.

Dumdie says nearly two dozen agencies responded to the scene, some from suburban Chicago.

Genoa is about 25 miles southeast of Rockford.
