32,000 cyclists take part in NYC bike tour

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour Presented by REI offered 32,000 cyclists the opportunity to bike through all five boroughs–Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island on streets totally free of traffic.

The event was co-produced by Bike New York and the New York City Department of Transportation.

Proceeds from the TD Five Boro Bike Tour fund Bike New York’s free bike education classes.

Last year, they taught over 15,000 New Yorkers how to ride safely and confidently. Plus, there’s no better way to experience the Big Apple than by bike. For one day, the roads, the bridges and the city belonged to the cyclists.

Streets and major thoroughfares across New York including parts of the FDR Drive, Verrazano Bridge and the Gowanus were closed for part of the day Sunday due to the tour.
