New health care app Get My Nurse

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - An alarming study published in a recent JAMA-Pediatrics issue found that very few hospitals provide sufficient numbers of nurses to meet national guidelines; putting the health of new mothers at very high risk.

Meanwhile, in Medford, Long Island a family was completely unaware of their loved one's neglect at a nursing home until it was too late. So its no surprise that apps like Get My Nurse are being used by patients and family members to improve nurse response time.

Get My Nurse, sometimes written as GetMyNurse seems to be making its rounds in the marketplace.

The app is unique in that if you or your loved one is in a hospital or long term care facility and you press the 'notify nurse button' on the app, a call center will contact the hospital or facility, make sure the patient is being tended to, and will send an automatic email to family members with a notification that their loved one contacted the nurse, and how long it took for the nurse to arrive.

"It is all part of the accountability that comes with new technology" said Marc Reginold, the Marketing Manager for GetMyNurse. "People are tired of pressing a nurse call button in hospitals and getting no assistance. With us, we make sure the hospital is held accountable by making sure their loved ones are aware that a nurse was contacted, and how long it took for them to arrive."

Reginold also mentioned that hospitals are consistently understaffed and patients remain neglected.

"That recent story about a patient in Medford who died because he was neglected, and family members had no way of knowing the patient was not being taken care of, this app eliminates that problem" he said. "They will know every time he contacts a nurse, and how long it took for the nurse to arrive."

The app uses the latest autocomplete technology and has a database of millions of healthcare and hospital facilities.  The call center calls the nursing home, healthcare facility or hospital within seconds and an email gets sent to the family member as soon as the 'notify nurse' button is pressed.

Get My Nurse can be downloaded for free at their website, Apple or Google Play store.

When our heads hit the pillow at night, we all dream, experts say. But can something influence what we dream about? Dr. Ross Levin, a behavioral sleep specialist and clinical psychologist, says there is an abundance of urban myths about dreams. No, good and bad smells or spicy foods won't influence your dreams. But reading or watching something scary before you go to bed might cause you to dream about something disturbing.
