CARY, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A vehicle slammed into a tree early Friday morning near northwest suburban Cary, killing two men.

About 2:30 a.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s office responded to a crash on West Rawson Bridge Road in unincorporated Cary, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. A vehicle had crossed the center line at a curve in the road, then struck a tree on the west side of the road.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Bradley Kass of Algonquin, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The passenger, 22-year-old Robert Sloan Jr. of Algonquin, was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Sloan had been wearing his seat belt but the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy, police said.

An autopsy Friday morning indicated Kass died from multiple blunt force injuries, the McHenry County Coroner’s office said in a statement. Sloan’s death is being investigated, the statement said.

Investigators believe alcohol may be a contributing factor in the crash, and are awaiting toxicology reports, police said.

The sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the coroner’s office are investigating.
