Prince Valley Store's Tres Leches

(WJBK) - Prince Valley Store in Mexicantown is know for its bakery, including its famous Tres Leches.

Hani Gappy opened the first Prince Valley supermarket in Detroit's Mexicantown in 1975. Appealing to the growing Latino population, Hani developed a tortilla factory inside the store, including a Hispanic bakery and pastry department, as well as a full service meat counter.

Continuing the tradition, Prince Valley offers fresh tortillas from corn kernels, their own tortilla chips, fresh guacamole, pico de gayo, salsas, and charizo. The bakery department offers a full array of cakes and pastries, covering all holiday occasions.

In southwestern Detroit, nicknamed "Mexicantown," the Latino population has grown and small business has flourished. Over the last 20 years, Detroit's Hispanic population has grown by 70 percent, from, according to the 2010 Census. The Hispanic community in Detroit is also young, with a median age of 24.

Tres Leches Cake

Ingredients (Cake)

½ lb Sponge Flour 
2 Cups Water 
2 Cups Egg 
½ lb Melted Margarine (Soft)
10" Cake Pan Sprayed 


Mix egg , water and flour for 2 minutes in a medium speed .
Add Margarine and mix for another 2 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees 
Grease one 9x13 inch baking pan and bake for 17 minutes

3 flavored milk preparation:

2 Cans of evaporated milk
1 Can of sweetened condensed milk 
1 Cup of heavy cream 
2 tbl sp Vanilla Flavor


Combine all together. (well mix) 
Cut cake in half and spread your favorite filling.
Pierce cake several times with a fork.
Pour over on top of the warm cake until wet (as moisturized ) .
Very important Make sure cake is still warm enough so milk can be absorbed easily.
Decorate cake with Strawberries or other fruits you prefer.
