Detroit power outage blamed on strong winds

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - City officials are blaming strong winds for a power outage affecting a number of Detroit Public Schools and traffic signals.

The mayor's office says the Public Lighting Department should have electricity restored by Tuesday night, but also warm the forecasted storms could impact restoration efforts in the future.

The Detroit Public Schools closed four schools Tuesday and eight others were shutting early for the day due to power problems.

DTE Energy Co. says about 10,000 utility customers scattered throughout southeastern Michigan are without power due to Tuesday's storms.
