Toews named Frank J. Selke Trophy finalist

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathon Toews has been named one of three finalists for the 2014 Frank J. Selke Trophy, the NHL announced Thursday.

The trophy is given each year to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of hockey.

The 25-year-old Winnipeg native won the trophy in 2013 and was a finalist in 2011.

According to a release from the Chicago Blackhawks, Toews is ranked third on the Blackhawks with 68 points, and ranked second on the team with a plus-26 rating in 76 regular-season games. He also ranked second on the Blackhawks with 51 takeaways. Toews ranked fifth in the League and second in the Western Conference with 884 faceoff wins.

Other candidates for the 2014 trophy are Patrice Bergeron of the Bruins and Anze Kopitar of the Kings. The winner will be announced during at the NHL Awards Show on June 24 in Las Vegas, Nev.
