Michigan Girl Mauled By Raccoon Leaves Hospital After Surgery

Posted: Updated:

Royal Oak, MI- A Michigan girl got to go home after a life-changing surgery.

11-year-old Charlotte Ponce checked out of Beaumont Hospital, Monday with a wagon full of stuffed animals!

Charlotte spent days in the hospital after a 7-hour plastic surgery procedure.

Her face had been disfigured after a pet raccoon attacked her when she was just 3-months-old

The raccoon chewed off her nose, some of her lip and her ear.

Doctors took rib cartilage to mold into an ear and then placed it in her arm to grow skin.

The plastic surgeon also operated on her lip and made a nose that's healing well.

Now, all Charlotte is worried about is getting back to her niece and nephew, and wearing earrings.

"And I got some new earrings, I don't know from who," Charlotte said.

"She's a special girl with special a circumstances. Not that all kids aren't special but, you know, she's got a special circumstance but you know, so that puts her in a special kind of category," mother Sharon Ponce said.

"I love the attention so much,” Charlotte said. "Sometimes overwhelming, it can be cause, I’m having surgeries, I'm an aunt, a little sister, and the hardest part is, I’m an aunt, and my niece and nephew miss me."

Charlotte will undergo more surgery in June.

Doctors will retrieve her ear from her arm and attach it.
