Consumers warned of fake emails regarding USPS

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

There is a new scam connected to the US Postal Service that involves deceiving emails to steal personal information.

The Better Business Bureau warns the hackers send emails about online postage charges and attempted package deliveries.

They say the emails instruct consumers to click on a link that allows hackers to steal usernames, passwords, and financial account information.

Officials with the Better Business Bureau in Chicago and Northern Illinois say consumers can easily mistake these emails for authorized US Postal Service emails, which could lead to identity theft.

USPS warns that the fake emails include poor spelling or grammar, request immediate action and request personal information.

If you see these emails, report them to the Better Business Bureau and then click delete.
