Chicago ranked among top 25 most frugal cities

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Seriously, you're not going to believe this: Chicago- home to the Magnificent Mile, countless high fashion stores and endless opportunities to drain your bank account- is apparently frugal.

And it's not just a little frugal. According to coupons.com, Chicago is one of the top 25 most penny pinching cities in the country.

Despite oodles of awesome spending temptations, Chicagoans know how to shop smart- from food to travel to clothing.

Just take a look over at Hot Doug's a great place to grab a cheap bite on the northwest side. It was voted number one on Yelp's list of best inexpensive places to eat in Chicago.

Take a look around the busy streets of Chicago and you will find a flood of folks using their legs to remain frugal - public transportation, Divvy bikes, the El, and even just walking.

Our city isn't shy about going out of their way to avoid insane cab fares, overpriced parking spots, and continuously rising gas prices.

But when it comes to the clothes on your back, saving a dollar can be a bit harder.

The shadows of Gucci, Burberry and other high priced clothing stores along the Magnificent Mile can be quite intimidating- until you travel to Wicker Park, where you will find a selection of secondhand retail stores. One includes Buffalo Exchange, a store that buys, sells and trades fashion with local customers.

From food, travel, to clothes, Chicago has proven that when it comes to being frugal, Chicago stands above most others.

And while you can't put a price on pride, our city proves that if you could, we would probably have a coupon for that.
