Quinn: New state police cars not yet ready

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Governor Quinn says a fleet of new state police cars may look really nice, but the cars can't be sent out until they're ready.

The Tribune says 85 brand new Chevy Caprices have been sitting at a parking lot in Springfield since last summer but they can't hit the road because they still haven't been outfitted with things like lights, radios, and computers.

The governor was asked about the fleet Monday. He said it takes time to outfit the cars for police work.

A state police spokeswoman says the department has technicians to do the installations, but they are spread thin with repairs to the current fleet.
