Parole violator leads police on wild chase through Chesterfield Twp.

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - Police say a parole absconder has been arrested for a home invasion after leading police on a legthy chase across Chesterfield Township.

Dispatchers received a 911 call of a burglary in process Thursday evening just before 7 p.m. The called described the suspect and the vehicle, and told dispatchers he had just left the home with a pillowcase appearing to be full of stolen stuff.

Police spotted the suspect a short time later at near 21 Mile and Romeo Plank roads. They say the suspect refused to pull over and led police on a chase that lasted for seven minutes.

Police say stop-sticks were deployed in efforts to deflate the tires. However, the chase still ensued and finally ended when a police cruiser slammed into the suspect's vehicle. The man was taken into custody.

He has been identified as Ryan Leavitt.

Police say coins, jewelry, checks, I.D. and medications were found inside a pillowcase in the back seat of Leavitt's vehicle.

Leavitt, a self-described heroin addict, was cooperative with investigators that interviewed him after the arrest. They say he has quite a criminal history.

"Mr. Leavitt's car was listed ... as a wanted vehicle for toehr burglaries. It described Mr. Leavitt as being the driver, a parole absconder and wanted on a warrant out of Burton, Michigan for another home invasion," says Chesterfield Sgt. Daron Myers.

Leavitt has been charged with second-degree home invasion and possession of analogues.
