"Heart bleed bug" puts sensitive information at risk

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Security analysts are warning consumers to stay off online banking sites and other sensitive websites because of what is being called the "heart bleed bug."

The bug allows hackers to see your password, copy it and access any information on your private account.

Officials say changing your password won't help because the bug prevents the password from being encrypted and hackers will still be able to see it.

The bug affects about two thirds of all internet sites.

Most analysts say you should stay off any online banking or other sensitive sites for the next few days to allow them to upgrade their software and fix the problem.

If you are not sure a website is secure, contact the company directly.
