Motorists pack the patience as I-96 construction begins

Posted: Updated:
LIVONIA, Mich. (WJBK) -- Monday marked the first weekday morning commute for drivers navigating their way through the I-96 reconstruction project.

Motorists are being advised to give themselves an extra 30 minutes as crews work to reconstruct the freeway, repair 37 overpasses and upgrade utilities. It's expected to wrap up in October.

But outside of the 30 minutes, here's another number to keep in mind: 150.

FOX 2's Roop Raj says 150,000 motorists travel the 7-mile stretch of closed freeway on a daily basis. The cost of the reconstruction project is $150 million. And, $150,000 is the fine for contractors for each day they go over the October deadline.
