Jury rules in favor of former ethics director

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -

A resounding victory for the former director of the state ethics commission on Friday. A jury ruled in favor of Stacy Kalberman and awarded her $700,000. She claimed she had been forced out for aggressively investigating Governor Nathan Deal's 2010 campaign finances.

The week-long trial came down to two-and-a-half hours of deliberations. FOX 5's Dale Russell reported the emotional scene when the verdict was read. Kalberman was seen wiping tears from her eyes.

Kalberman said,"I'm relieved because the justice system allowed me to bring my claim and it allowed me to tell my story so I did not have to walk away from something I thought was terribly wrong."

The $700,000 the jury awarded her does not include attorney fees and back pay.

In her closing statement, Kalberman's attorney said that her client was a victim of a political power play.
