White Sox put Nate Jones on DL with hip strain

Posted: Updated:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Chicago White Sox right-hander Nate Jones has been put on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained muscle in his left hip.

Jones allowed four runs without retiring a batter during two relief appearances this season, giving up two hits and walking three. He said he felt discomfort while pitching Thursday and may have aggravated a gluteal strain sustained during spring training.

Jake Petricka was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday to fill the roster spot. He was 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA in 16 games last season.

All James Carpenter wanted was to be able to run. That seems an odd wish coming from a 6-foot-5, 321-pound offensive lineman.
