CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Chicago woman dubbed the "Shady Bandit" by the FBI and suspected of robbing several North Side banks is charged with robbing a TCF Bank in the Uptown neighborhood in February.

Irene Carrera, 51, was arrested about 1 p.m. Tuesday by a Chicago Police sergeant for a probation violation, according to court documents. The officer thought Carrera matched surveillance photos of several bank robberies in the area and contacted the FBI.

Carrera, of the 8200 block of South Ingleside Avenue, was charged with one count of bank robbery in connection with a heist at a TCF bank in the 4300 block of North Sheridan Road on Feb. 11, the FBI said in a statement.

FBI officials said Carrera could face additional charges for robberies that occurred in May and November at a TCF in the 3500 block of North Broadway, and a March 6 robbery in the 5500 block of North Clark, the FBI said.

Bank surveillance video from each robbery showed Carrera wearing dark sunglasses, which led to the "Shady Bandit" moniker, the FBI said. Agents recovered a pair of sunglasses similar to those shown in the videos in Carrera's apartment, the FBI said.

Carrera could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
