Construction to close lanes overnight on I-90, I-290

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Construction will close lanes overnight on interstates 90 and 290 starting Monday in the northwest suburbs.

Two lanes will be closed on eastbound I-90 between Barrington and Roselle roads in Schaumburg as crews complete pavement striping, according to a statement from the Illinois Tollway.

Lanes will be reopened by 5 a.m. every day before the morning rush hour starts, officials said.

Once the striping is complete, eastbound I-90 traffic will be shifted to the left while crews work on constructing the median wall, the Tollway said.

The construction is part of the I-90 Rebuilding and Widening Project, in which 62 miles of the interstate will be created in to a corridor between O'Hare International Airport and Rockford.

Restriping is also scheduled for westbound I-290 between Irving Park Road and Devon Avenue near Wood Dale during overnight or "off-peak" daytime hours next week, officials said.

After restriping is done, traffic will be shifted to create a work zone for crews building a center pier for a flyover ramp bridge that will connect westbound I-290 to Illinois Route 390, officials said.

When the work on this project is done, the I-290 Interchange will connect to and from Route 390, officials said. It's part of the Elgin O'Hare Western Access Project, which is slated to add 17 miles of new roads around the western border of O'Hare Airport.
