WHEATON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Chicago man who fatally shot a northwest suburban store clerk during a January robbery was ordered held without bond Friday, according to prosecutors.

Stephan Russell, 20, is charged with murder in connection with the Jan. 19 robbery and shooting that killed 36-year-old Hussein Saghir at Sam's Tobacco and Food Mart at 235 W. Irving Park Rd. in Bensenville, according to DuPage County State's Attorney's office spokesman Paul Darrah.

Prosecutors have already charged Tremayne Davis, 23, and Kenneth Bardlett, 20, with murder and attempted armed robbery in connection with the incident. Davis was also charged with obstructing justice.

Prosecutors said Russell, Bardlett and Davis drove to the store as Saghir was closing up for the night. While Davis waited in the car, Russell and Bardlett tried to rob the clerk before Russell fired the shot that killed him, prosecutors said.

Police are still searching for at least one other person thought to have been involved, prosecutors have said.

Bardlett pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated battery as part of a plea deal that requires him to testify against the others, prosecutors said. His sentencing date has not yet been set.

Russell, the third man charged in the murder, has been held on $2.5 million bond since Monday on felony charges of intimidation and harassment of witnesses, prosecutors said.

According to court records, Russell is accused of throwing an object at the vehicle of Bardlett's relative with the intent to harass her about 3 p.m. March 14. The relative may serve as a witness in the case, records state.

Russell, of the 3500 block of West Armitage Avenue, is being held at the DuPage County Jail and is next scheduled to appear in court April 22.

Davis, who has been held on $2.5 million bond since Feb. 23, will next appear for a status hearing April 16, according to court records.
