CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An elderly man is dead after a car hit him Thursday morning in the Northwest Side Dunning neighborhood.

Nicholas Marx Jr., 85, was hit at 5:50 a.m. in the 4400 block of North Narragansett Avenue after he walked into the street in front of northbound traffic, authorities said.

Marx, of the 4400 block of North Mason Avenue, was taken to Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:01 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy Friday determined he died from multiple injuries as a result of an automobile striking a pedestrian, and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said.

The driver is not expected to be charged or cited for the crash, police said.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
