DETROIT (WJBK) - A tip on a years-old cold case has prompted an extensive search for human remains in a neighborhood on Detroit's west side.

FOX 2's Erika Erickson was at the scene Wednesday.

Neighbors tell her 10 to 12 police vehicles are usually on the scene, as well as multiple cadaver dogs. A bulldozer was also on-site.

A homicide task force of the Detroit Police Department and Michigan State Police is leading the search.

Crews are digging an empty lot next to a vacant home on Hazlette Street. Police received a tip about a murder from October of 2011 in which the body has yet to be found.

Police say they will stay at the scene until evidence is found or the scene has been cleared completely.
