Two South Carolina siblings are making headlines for their incredibly selfless act.  They decided to raise money to donate to the American Heart Association’s annual Jump Rope for Heart—even though they face their own challenges.  Their family is homeless.

This year marks the 35th Anniversary of the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser.  Anastasia and Alex Kenny saw an American Heart Association brochure featuring a boy who had heart surgery, and they were inspired to do something.  Alex and his sister went downtown and started asking people they saw to donate—and a little added up to a lot.

Alex and Anastasia’s goal was to raise $200 each day—and in the end, they raised $1,000.

“We didn’t want it for the prizes,” said Alex.  “We wanted it for the people who needed it.”

Their mom Vanessa says she took the money they raised in to their gym teacher to drop it off personally because she didn’t them to lose it.  Their teacher, she says, was stunned when he learned how much they raised.
American Heart Association spokesperson Fraser Gowen says the organization is thrilled that even though the kids needed the money themselves, they decided to do something for someone else instead.

It was commuter confusion out on Interstate 66 Monday morning. Drivers heading eastbound towards Washington D.C. wound up seeing their traffic lanes suddenly turn into a mess. Lane stripes somehow pulled away from the road surface and created a mess of tangled tape and lanes that didn't make sense.
