Water pipe bursts at Loop intersection

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A water pipe leading up to a CTA rail station burst Monday evening after it was apparently hit by a vehicle, officials said.

The pipe burst some time after 6 p.m.

CTA service was not affected, but traffic was moving slowly through the intersection as of 7 p.m.

The service pipe runs up a support beam for the CTA's State and Lake station, according to Tom LaPorte, spokesman for the city's Department of Water Management.

CTA crews were working to repair the pipe as of 7:20 p.m.
