First responder saves woman's life after heroin overdose

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A woman is alive after a DuPage County deputy this past weekend treated her with Narcan, a heroin overdose antidote.

When Deputy Timothy Jasper arrived on scene, the only clues that led him to believe a heroin overdose was occurring were the sight of a spoon, cotton and a package-wrapper. Jasper then immediately administered the nasal mist.

Peter Sterenberg of the DuPage County Sherriff's Office said that by the time the fire department arrived, the woman was alert and responsive.

Sterenberg also said that this was the first time Narcan had been issued by a first responder since deputies have been trained to carry it.
