CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

It may officially be spring in Chicago, but that won't stop two inches of snow from falling Sunday along Lake Michigan.

Over an inch of lake effect snow has already accumulated along parts of the lake as of 6:45 a.m. and up to another inch of snow could fall, according to the National Weather Service.

Chicago Fire Media warned Sunday morning of numerous accidents on the expressway due to snow, and advised drivers to use extreme caution near downtown and on Lake Shore Drive.

The snow showers are expected to drift slowly southeast into northwest Indiana by mid-morning, according to the weather service.

This burst of snow won't be the last for Chicago — less than inch of white stuff is expected to accumulate when snow arrives in the area again Monday night.
