Don't put the parka away winter expected to hang on through Spring

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Even though Spring was sprung on Thursday Old Man Winter will still be keeping a firm grip on most of the United States right through May.

NOAA's Climate Prediction Center has released it's spring weather outlook and for Chicago it's a continuation of the persistent weather pattern we have seen all winter. That includes a trough over the eastern U.S. ushering in cold air and storm systems from Canada. The western U.S. is expected to continue under dry and warmer conditions which could contribute to an active wildfire season.

At this point there are equal chances for our summer temperatures to be average, below average or above average. We should also watch for the possibility of an El Nino to develop this fall and winter. El Nino typically leads to warmer than average temperatures.in the Chicago area.
