CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 16-year-old girl was shot Tuesday afternoon in the Pilsen neighborhood.

The girl suffered a gunshot wound to the upper chest and shoulder area about 4 p.m. while she was walking on the sidewalk in the 1700 block of West 18th Street, said police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney.

She apparently saw two groups of males in an argument before she heard shots and felt pain, Sweeney said.

She was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where she was listed in "stable" condition, Sweeney said.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
