SKOKIE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Washington man has been charged with theft by deception after he allegedly posed as a property owner near northwest suburban Des Plaines and took deposits for fake rental agreements.

Ronald Pierzowski, 29, of Renton, Wash., was arrested Friday and faces felony charges of criminal trespass to real property and theft by deception, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.

On Saturday, he was ordered held on $10,000 bond, the sheriff's office said.

Pierzowski advertised apartments for rent in a Polish language newspaper and posed as a property owner or landlord for a condominium in the 9900 block of Holly Lane in unincorporated Des Plaines, the sheriff's office said.

He did not own that property and was not the landlord, but he showed the condominium to at least three people between Feb. 14 and Feb. 23, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office said Pierzowski had fraudulent leases and accepted more than $500 from each person.

He is next schedule to appear in court March 20 at the Skokie Courthouse.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim to Pierzowski's rental scam should call police at (708) 865-4896.
