BURBANK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A homeless man found dead Monday in a wooded area in southwest suburban Burbank is at least the 28th cold-related death of the season in Cook County.

James S. Nanfeldt, 61, was found in a wooded area near 75th Street and Narragansett Avenue in Burbank about 5:30 p.m., according to a release from Burbank police.

An autopsy Tuesday found Nanfeldt died of hypothermia due to cold exposure, and listed heart disease and an enlarged heart as contributing factors, the medical examiner's office said. His death was ruled an accident.

Nanfeldt, who was homeless, had no children and was not married, the release said.

The last time the county saw more than 25 cold deaths was the winter of 2007-08, when 29 people died of cold-related causes, officials said. Last winter, 14 people died of cold-related causes.
