Savannah, Irish leaders meet for St. Patrick's Day

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Savannah city leaders are planning to greet Irish officials and celebrate the city's involvement an international Irish tourism initiative.

The dome of Savannah's City Hall will be lit in green to mark St. Patrick's Day as part of Tourism Ireland's Global Greening campaign. Officials say the building is one of more than 70 sites around the world that will be covered in green light to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, which is Monday.

Officials say the Global Greening initiative is aimed at uniting people around the world who feel a connection with Ireland.

Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson and other city officials are slated to greet Irish Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar and Irish Consul General Paul Gleeson at City Hall at 7:15 p.m. Sunday.
