CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

As of March 12, 2014 Chicago has reached 79.1" of snow for the season. That is the 3rd snowiest season since records began in the 1800's. Question is can we reach the top spot?

The two snowiest seasons in recorded Chicago history are the back-to-back years of 1977-78 with 82.3" and 1978-79 with 89.7. Only 3.2" of snow stands between this season and #2. It will take 10.6" of snow to reach #1 and we may very well set a new record before this season is over because March can be a very wintry month.

Three of Chicago's top 10 snow storms have occurred in March, they include; 19.2 inches Mar 25-26, 1930 and 14.3 inches Mar 25-26, 1970 and 16.2 inches Mar 7-8, 1931. There have also been six snowfalls of 10" or more during the month of March. In addition there was a 10" snowfall on April 1-2, 1970.

More snow is possible in the next 7 days, so stay tuned.

Scientists believe a cluster of devastating earthquakes could strike San Francisco in the next 18 years. In 1906 San Francisco was nearly flattened when a major earthquake struck the city. Since that time there have been only a handful of large quakes in that area and now scientists are predicting a 63 percent chance that a major earthquake or series of major quakes will strike the Bay Area before the year 2032.
