CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two separate crashes in close proximity to each other on the Far South Side have traffic getting by on just one lane on northbound I-57.

The first crash, about 9:57 a.m., left a driver injured when a silver 2002 Toyota Corolla lost control near 111th Street, according to Illinois State Police.

The driver, a 48-year-old man from Chicago, lost control of the vehicle while driving in the far left lane, and the car "veered left and struck the concrete median barrier on the left side," a statement from ISP said. It then "veered to the right across all lanes of traffic striking the concrete wall on the right side."

The man was taken to a hospital, but no condition report was available. It was not known whether he was wearing a seat belt.

The second incident occurred in the same area, but was not related, according to ISP.

A semi truck was involved in that crash, which has the two far right lanes of I-57 closed at 111th Street. ISP said those lanes will be closed for a few hours.

Traffic is getting by only in the far left lane, but vehicles are able to exit at 111th.
