Atlanta DJ says shooting was self defense

Posted: Updated:

DJ "Beestroh" hobbled to court on crutches Friday with his foot in a cast, wearing an orange jumpsuit.

The popular Atlanta DJ, who's real name is Ronald Robinson, was arrested following a shooting at the Velvet Room.

Robinson said through his attorney that the shooting was a matter of self defense.

The DJ's lawyer said if he hadn't had a gun, he would have likely been killed.

Meanwhile, DeKalb Police describe the incident differently.

They say two uniformed officers working security that night ran to the back of the club when they heard gunfire.

Police say the officers clearly identified themselves.

Robinson was shot during the incident.

Today, the 34-year-old Hot 107.9 DJ was granted a 30-thousand dollar bond.

Robinson also goes by the air name "Beestroh" for Atlanta radio station Hot 107.9.

According to DeKalb police, the shooting happened at around 3 a.m. after a dispute between Robinson who was working as a DJ at the party and another man in the club's back parking lot.

Police say when they attempted to intervene in the altercation, Robinson began waving his gun toward them.

Police say officers shot the DJ in his leg.

Robinson faces two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.
