GOP candidates for lieutenant governor to debate

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

The four Republican candidates for Illinois lieutenant governor are facing off for the first and only time ahead of the March 18 primary.

The event is Thursday at Chicago's WTTW-TV.

This year, lieutenant governor candidates are running as a team with a gubernatorial candidate. Lawmakers made the change after embarrassing revelations about the 2010 Democratic nominee surfaced.

The lieutenant governor candidates are Northbrook attorney Steve Kim, who's running with Treasurer Dan Rutherford; former Long Grove Village President Maria Rodriguez, who is state Sen. Bill Brady's pick; Wheaton City Councilwoman Evelyn Sanguinetti, who's teamed up with businessman Bruce Rauner; and state Rep. Jil Tracy of Quincy, who's running with state Sen. Kirk Dillard.

Three lieutenant governor candidates debated last month. Sanguinetti didn't attend.

Early voting has started.
