4 GOP candidates for governor square off

CHICAGO (AP) - Differences and similarities on social issues were the focus at a Republican gubernatorial debate in Chicago.

On the campaign trail, the four candidates have largely tried to talk about the state's massive financial problems, including its pension debt. But candidates were asked Tuesday about the death penalty, abortion and same-sex marriage. Illinois legalized gay marriage this year.

The candidates are state Sens. Kirk Dillard and Bill Brady, businessman Bruce Rauner and Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford.

All four say they're in favor of bringing back the death penalty, which Illinois abolished in 2011. But they differed when it came to abortion.

The forum was hosted by WMAQ-TV at the University of Chicago.

The primary is March 18.
