CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A big celebration took place at the Thompson Center rotunda Thursday afternoon.

Secretary of State Jesse White hosted his annual African American Heritage Month Celebration, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964.

FOX 32 News at Nine anchor Dawn Hasbrouck was honored to emcee, along with Good Day Chicago's Jon Kelley.

White gave out a number of awards to community leaders, including former Broadcaster Merri Dee, Loop Capital's James Reynolds, and ComEd Executive VP John T. Hooker.

Dan's catering served soul food during a small luncheon after the program, where a number of local groups performed.
