GARY, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A semi driver was cited for going too fast after his truck rolled over onto its side on a busy northwest Indiana ramp Wednesday afternoon.

About 2:58 p.m. Wednesday, a 2006 Freightliner semi pulling a box trailer was northbound on I-65 and took the exit ramp to I-80/94 westbound, but made the turn too quickly, causing the load to shift, according to Indiana State Police.

The truck, owned by CDW Consulting of Port Huron, Mich., was carrying about 42,450 pounds of bagged feed seed from Remington, Ind., to Port Huron, ISP said.

The driver lost control on the ramp, and the truck went off the roadway into a ditch, with the tractor staying upright and the box trailer on its side, ISP said.

The right lane of the ramp remains closed to traffic, but vehicles are getting by in the left lane, police said. The right lane is expected to be closed for up to four more hours, police said about 5 p.m.

The load did not spill, but each 55-pound bag of feed must be taken from the trailer by hand and moved to another truck.

The driver, 43-year-old Robert W. Kelly of Port Huron, was wearing his seat belt and was taken to Saint Mary's Medical Center in Hobart, Ind., with non-life-threatening injuries, ISP said.

He was cited for driving too fast and having a false log, according to ISP, which has placed him out of service for the latter violation.
