ST. CHARLES, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A northwest suburban woman charged with trying to arrange a vehicular hijacking so the occupants could be attacked was ordered held on a $350,000 bond Tuesday.

Michelle Leigh Bertoncini, 39, of South Elgin is accused of meeting with undercover ATF agents in both Chicago and South Elgin over the past month or so to discuss arranging the hijacking of a vehicle, ATF Special Agent Tom Ahern said.

Bertoncini wanted the vehicle hijacked at gunpoint so that occupants of the vehicle, with whom she had a personal relationship, could be attacked, Ahern said.

The vehicle was never hijacked and the beating never occurred, he said.

Bertoncini is charged with two counts of solicitation for aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm; and two counts of solicitation of vehicular invasion, a statement from ATF said.

Bertoncini was arrested Monday following a multi-agency investigation by the ATF, DuPage County Metropolitan Enforcement Group, the Cook County Sheriff's office, and police from Chicago and South Elgin.

She was ordered held in the Kane County Jail on a $350,000 bond and will next appear in court March 7 in St. Charles, according to ATF. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison.
