CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An autopsy was inconclusive for a man found dead after a fire at his home in the Near West Side neighborhood Wednesday morning.

The fire began in the townhome in the 300 block of North Canal Street a few minutes after 10 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Ana Pacheco said. No one else was injured in the blaze.

James Whitner, 70, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:48 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy Thursday was inconclusive for Whitmer pending an investigation, according to the medical examiner's office.

The Chicago Police Department's arson unit is investigating the blaze, but it is not thought to be criminal in nature, Pacheco said.
