CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man who fell to his death in the Water Tower Place mall in Streeterville on Monday night committed suicide, an autopsy Tuesday found.

About 9 p.m., the man "fell or jumped" to the ground floor from the seventh floor atrium of the shopping center at 835 N. Michigan Ave., police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

Paul R. Larochelle III, 27, was from Auburn, Mass., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was a former student of Columbia College, but had not attended since 2008, spokeswoman Cara Birch confirmed.

An autopsy Tuesday found he died of multiple injuries suffered in a fall from height and his death was ruled a suicide, according to the medical examiner's office.

The mall opened for regular hours Tuesday, a spokesperson said.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
