SKOKIE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A teenager accused of robbing a couple of their backpack at gunpoint in north suburban Evanston was ordered held on $350,000 bond Monday.

Deshawn Gillette, 17, was charged as an adult with one count of armed robbery, a class X felony, in connection with the Feb. 14 incident near Mulford Street and Sherman Avenue, Evanston police said in a release.

A husband and wife were walking back to their Rogers Park home from St. Francis Hospital in Evanston about 8:50 p.m. when Gillette allegedly took a backpack from them, the release said.

He allegedly displayed a black handgun during the robbery, Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said. Police have not recovered the backpack or the gun.

Gillette, of the 100 block of Clyde Avenue in Evanston, was ordered held on $350,000 bond at a hearing Monday, the release said.

He has prior arrests as a juvenile, Parrott said. Gillette will next appear in court March 12 at the Skokie courthouse.
