Ruse burglaries target Mount Greenwood senior citizens

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two recent ruse burglaries targeted senior citizens in the Southwest Side Mount Greenwood neighborhood.

In both cases, the suspects claimed to work for the water department, and talked their way into the homes -- distracting the residents and allowing them to take items inside, Morgan Park District police said in an alert.

One burglary happened Feb. 5, while another happened Feb. 12, the alert said.

The suspects are described as two white men about 45 to 55 years old, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10 and between 160 and 200 pounds, the alert said.

They were last seen driving a pickup truck, the alert said.

Police are warning residents to ask for identification from strangers claiming to be from an organization or utility company, the alert said.

Contact 311 to confirm work is being done in the neighborhood before letting anyone inside, police advise. Residents should call 911 to report suspicious people and activities.
