CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

It was not a good day for travel, regardless of whether it was by plane or by car.

You've probably heard the term "snafu." Well, Monday was a "snowfu" where people traveled at their own risk.

The busiest place in Terminal 1 at O'Hare was the rebooking line at the United counter.

"[I was] scheduled on a flight to go home tonight at 9:14 just returned the rental car, got on the shuttle and got an email that my flight was canceled…supposedly they have me booked our flight tomorrow morning at a quarter to nine," traveler Joshua Weiss, who was returning to New York City, said.

Weary travelers saw a lot of yellow on the flight monitors with cancelled or delayed flights and late arriving inbound planes causing additional headaches.

It was a day of disappointment for many.

"Our first flight that I was supposed to be on got de-iced, taxied out to the runway, sat there too long, had to come back, and then the flight crew ran out of time, so they had to bring in a new flight crew, and in that time the plane got too much snow. Then that got canceled, then they canceled the 9 o'clock flight as well," traveler Michael Gum said.

For some the missed flight was the result of bad road conditions.

Gustavo Pacheco drove from the University of Chicago, "I've been driving for five hours trying to get to the airport and because of the snow and everything I just couldn't make it on time."

Many people found themselves trying to arrange for last minute hotels.

Yet, despite all the frustration some managed to smile through the it.

"I had a job interview tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock and so I'm not going to make that, you know you got a smile, you know it doesn't do any good to get mad and upset. It is what it is," Gum said.
