MUNDELEIN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A pedestrian died Sunday after he was hit by a car in the parking lot of Aldi Foods in north suburban Mundelein, the Lake County News-Sun is reporting.

John Rozanacki, 64, of Mundelein, suffered blunt force trauma to the head and died at 1:23 a.m. at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, said Orlando Portillo, chief deputy for the Lake County Coroner's office.

The accident at the grocery store happened just after 1 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot at 730 Route 83, Mundelein Deputy Police Chief John Monahan said.

A 55-year-old Mundelein woman was coming out of a parking lot aisle and turning left "when she heard a thud," he said.

"We are unsure if he had fallen already or was struck," he continued. There were no independent witnesses. Mundelein Police Department was assisted by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.

"She was very distraught," said Monahan. She was taken for testing and there was no indication of drugs or alcohol involved.

While the investigation is not complete, he explained that charges were not likely because it was a private property accident and police can only write citations for DUI and reckless driving on private property.
