UPDATE: Public, Parochial Schools In Philly Close Before Storm

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The School District of Philadelphia has announced this afternoon that they will be closing on Thursday as a winter storm approaches.

"Also closed are all early childhood and after school programs," the public school system tweeted moments later. "A decision about administrative offices has not been made yet."

That announcement came shortly after the Archdiocese of Philadelphia said just before 1 p.m. that its high schools and elementary schools within city limits are also closing.

"Archdiocesan high schools and Catholic elementary schools in the City of Philadelphia will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, February 13, 2014 due to the impending inclement weather," the Archdiocese said in a statement. "Archdiocesan high schools and Catholic elementary schools in the suburban counties normally follow the decision of their corresponding local public school district and submit closure status independently."

Even some colleges are opting to close up for Thursday.

Temple University says classes at all domestic campuses and locations will be canceled. Essential personnel should contact their supervisor to discuss scheduling.

Shuttle service is suspended for Thursday starting at 1 a.m., with the exception of TUr Door and OWLoop service, which will operate as scheduled on Thursday.

"With the storm expected to end on Thursday evening, we expect operations to return to normal on Friday, Feb. 14. Please plan accordingly," Temple's news release states.
