MARKHAM, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Three brothers charged with the Christmas Day killing of pregnant teenager in south suburban Dolton pleaded not guilty Tuesday.

Darius D. Marshall, 19; Anthony Lee, 16; and Diante Coakley, 21, were charged with first-degree murder after a botched robbery left Lee's pregnant girlfriend, Eva Casara, fatally shot, authorities said previously.

At a bond hearing last December, Assistant State's Attorney Christina Kye said Casara, 17, left with the three brothers as they set out to commit a robbery at 152nd Street and Dorchester Avenue.

Casara ended up in the backseat of the vehicle of the intended robbery victim as the victim tried to drive away, Kye said.

Prosecutors have said all three suspects fired at the vehicle, and that Coakley fired the fatal shot that killed Casara.

The robbery victims only realized she was still in the car when they heard gurgling sounds from the back seat, Kye said. They dumped the body at 1104 E. 152nd St. and drove to Hammond, Ind.

A passerby found her lying on the ground injured. Casara, of the 3300 block of West 64th Place, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she later died, authorities said.

Her baby survived the attack and was burn in critical condition, family members said at the time.

Marshall, Lee and Coakley pleaded not guilty before Judge Anna Helen Demacopoulos at a hearing Tuesday, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Stephen Campbell said.

All three will appear for a status hearing March 17 at the Markham Courthouse, he said.
