A Courageous New York Boy Is Honorary Cop For A Day

Posted: Updated:

It's been a lifelong dream for 10 year old JP Honsinger to be a police officer.

Today that dream was made reality. JP was sworn in as an honorary Troy Police Officer.

Donning his badge and uniform, he was ready to protect the streets of Troy.

"JP and the family have been through a rough road to do something like this put a smile on their face it was nice." Troy Police Department's Patrolman, Kyle Jones, said.

A special day for a special young boy fighting another personal battle of his own.

JP was diagnosed with Neiman Pic disease, a rare degenerative illness, but today wasn't about that.

By JP's side was Patrolman Kyle Jones. Jones is one of JP's role models. He helped make This day possible.

JP got to unleash his K9 companion to catch one of the bad guys.

He is so good at his job already. JP was able to soothe K9 Elza then and lead her back to the patrol car.

The Troy Police Station is extremely happy they can distract JP from his illness.

" It's something that's been in his mind for years and I'm trying to give him every experience I can right now."
