CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

When you spend good money, and you're really looking forward to a vacation, having your trip end with a nasty stomach virus can be devastating.

For the second time in a week, a cruise ship has sailed off with happy passengers and returned with sick ones.

On Wednesday a Royal Caribbean cruise returned to New Jersey with 700 sick passengers.

On Thursday evening, a Princess Cruise ship docked in Texas with 160 sick passengers.

They had mixed reactions to the mess ,and how the crew handled it

"We were confined to the room for three days. We didn't get to enjoy any of the meals, any of the shows, " one passenger said.

Another said, "they took excellent, excellent care. There's nothing they could do when these things happen."

Understandably, the cruise industry is not happy about these sorts of incidents, and they're quick to point out that these outbreaks are rare.

An industry group says that in all of last year there were seven norovirus outbreaks reported to the CDC involving about 1,200 passengers.

They say "to put that in perspective 21 million people went on cruises last year."

So the incident rate is about six one thousandths of one percent.
