CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An elderly man who speaks little English and may be without medication went missing Thursday from the North Side Uptown neighborhood.

Daniel Mehedinti, 78, was last seen about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday before he left his home in the area of Marine Drive and Argyle Street in his light blue 2003 Jeep Liberty, with an Illinois license plate number of 4478228, according to a missing person alert issued by police.

Mehedinti had left to go to a dentist appointment in the 5400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, but it was unknown if he made the appointment, the alert said.

Police said Mehedinti is Romanian and speaks very little English, and that he is diabetic and may not have medication, the alert said.

The man likes to fish along the lakefront, police said.

Mehedinti is described as a 5-foot-4, 171-pound, lightly-completed white man with green eyes. He was last seen wearing a brown jacket and knit hat, police said.

Anyone with information should call Area North detectives at (312) 744-8200 or the Chicago Police Missing Persons Department at (312) 747-5789.
