Woman robbed, sexually assaulted in Rogers Park building

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A woman was robbed and sexually assaulted while doing laundry in the basement of her North Side Rogers Park neighborhood apartment building Wednesday night.

The woman was in the basement laundry area of the building in the 1200 block of West North Shore Avenue just after 7 p.m. when she was attacked from behind by a man, according to a campus safety alert issued by Loyola University police.

The suspect covered the woman's eyes, and told her he had a gun and would kill her if she screamed, police said. He then took her cell phone, slammed her head against a support beam and sexually assaulted her, according to campus police.

He again threatened to kill her if she moved, then ran out of the building, police said. The victim ran to her apartment and called the police.

Chicago Police describe the suspect as a black man 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-2, wearing a black jacket with black and white stripes on the cuffs, blue jeans with holes near the thigh, and tan Timberland boots.

The building is located near the Loyola campus, and many students live in the neighborhood, but the victim was not associated with Loyola.

Anyone with information should call 911 or campus police at (773) 508-6039.
